HYDROTHERAPY OF THE COLON | BENEFITS & SIDE EFFECTS

Hydrotherapy is a term used to describe the use of water for different medical treatments. Hydrotherapy is also known as, aquatic therapy, water therapy, pool therapy, and balneotherapy. Using water in different ways and at different temperatures can have varied impacts on various bodily systems. The large intestine, or colon, absorbs salt and water from waste that has passed through the body. During the process of hydrotherapy of the colon, water is used to drain waste out of the large intestine. Hydrotherapy is also referred to as colonic cleansing or colonic irrigation. An average colon hydrotherapy session uses 25 to 35 liters of water to flush the colon. The intestines are flushed with these substances, possibly others like coffee or herbs.

Possible benefits of colon hydrotherapy

According to proponents of colon cleansing, toxins from the digestive system can cause a number of health concerns, including arthritis and high blood pressure. They believe that colon cleansing benefits health, and strengthens the immune system. There isn’t any proof, though, that colon cleansing has these outcomes or is even helpful. Following are the benefits of colon cleansing, according to proponents.

  • Helps remove unwanted bacteria
  • Improves gut health
  • Boost the immune system
  • Weight loss
  • Helps in easily absorbing essential nutrients
  • Relief from constipation
  • Large intestine return to its healthy from

Side effects

Colon hydrotherapy hasn’t been shown to have any advantages in research. Those who have experienced it, have reported side effects as well.

Mild side effects could include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Bloating
  • Vomiting
  • Cramping
  • Nausea
  • Anal soreness

Sever side effects could include:

  • Infection
  • Dehydration
  • Kidney failure
  • Heart failure
  • Rectum tear

The procedure

The colon hydrotherapy procedure begins by inserting a device’s nozzle into the rectum. Warm, filtered water is sent to the colon using the device. As the therapy progresses, the therapist will keep an eye on the water’s pressure and temperature. It normally takes 45-50 minutes to complete the process.

Costs of colon hydrotherapy

Although costs differ by location, each session is expected to cost at least $50. As an elective operation, colon hydrotherapy is not covered by health insurance.

Follow these safety measures if you decide to undertake colon cleansing:

Consult your primary care physician first, especially if you have any health issues. You should make sure the person performing the colon cleansing process is an expert and using FDA-approved equipment. You should be aware of the herbal ingredients and their dosages in any colon-cleansing solutions you use because some ingredients have the potential to be harmful to your health. Such as, using coffee enemas for colon cleansing can be dangerous.

Summary

As discussed above there are numerous claims about the potential benefits of colonic irrigation, and none of them are backed by scientific evidence. Since colonic irrigation carries significant hazards, the majority of medical professionals do not recommend it. Colon cleansing is not necessary for the purposes of detoxification because the digestive system already performs this function.
